The Better Business Bureau is warning people, especially elderly veterans, of scams surrounding the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. The organization advises to be on the lookout for deals that seem too good to be true or for disreputable charities.

Some scams to watch out for are:

• people posing as Veterans Administration asking veterans to update credit card, bank or financial information;

• people charging service members for services they could get for free or less expensively elsewhere, such as military records;

• people trying to sell things like security systems to spouses of deployed military personnel by saying the service member ordered it to protect his or her family.

Possible scams can be reported to MNSCAMS at 866-347-0911 or a local police department.
