Winona Cotter scored seven runs in the first inning and coasted to an 11-0 five inning victory against Lake City Thursday in Lake City.

The Tigers (4-12, 2-11 HVL) started the season with a three game winning streak but have struggled since, losing the last nine games in a row and 12 of the last 13.

Lake City finished with two hits and four errors in the loss. Senior Amy Dudley went 1-for-2 and junior Maddie Breuer was also 1-for-2. Senior Alexa Blair threw all five innings, giving up four earned runs on nine hits and four walks. She struck out two.

“Cotter got big hits to have a big first inning and we could not get our hits to fall,” Lake City head coach Katie Luhmann said.

The Tigers compete in the Rochester Lourdes tournament Saturday in Rochester.

Tigers drop two games at Cannon Falls

Lake City was shut down by Cannon Falls Tuesday in losing both games of a doubleheader in Cannon Falls.

The Bombers (15-4, 9-4 HVL) held the Tigers to four hits total and zero runs in both games.

In game one, Cannon Falls tallied 12 hits in a 9-0 victory.

Lake City made four errors in the game and despite getting three hits, the Tigers were unable to plate any runs.

“We couldn’t get our hitting to go,” Luhmann said.

Game two was more of the same as the Bombers won 8-0.

Cannon Falls didn’t make an error in the win and had 10 hits.

“They are a tough hitting team,” Luhmann said. “And they’re not afraid to throw the ball around.”

Lake City committed eight errors and notched just one hit.
