Candidate filings open Tuesday

Election season is about to be in full swing.

Election season is about to be in full swing.

Those who want to run for elected positions from the city level up through federal can start filing for candidacy at 8 a.m. Tuesday May 22.

Open positions in Goodhue County are:

• County commissioner in Districts 1, 3 and 5

• Soil and water supervisor in Districts 3, 4 and 5

The filing fee for county commissioner is $50, and $20 for soil and water supervisor. File at the Goodhue County auditor/treasurer’s office, on the second floor of the Government Center, 509 W. Fifth St.

Open positions with the city of Red Wing are:

• Council member from Wards 1, 2 and combined Ward 3/4

• Mayor

City filing fee is $5. Candidates can file at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 315 W. Fourth St.

Filings will be accepted until 5 p.m. June 5. Offices that normally close at 4:30 p.m. will stay open later that day to allow for filing until 5 p.m.

Local government offices are closed Monday May 28 for Memorial Day and on weekends.

Candidate withdrawals are due by 5 p.m. June 7.

Candidates for state Senate, House of Representatives and judicial offices can either file with the secretary of state or in their county. Candidates for U.S. Congress must file with the secretary of state.

Filings fees are $400 for U.S. senator, $300 for U.S. representative and $100 for state senator or representative.

The office will display candidate filing information as it is available on its website, www.sos.state.mn.us. Goodhue County also will link to the page on its site, www.co.goodhue.mn.us.

Additional candidate filing information, including forms and instructions, also is available at the secretary of state’s website.

Primaries, where necessary, are slated for Aug. 14. The general election is Nov. 6.

The Red Wing School Board will have four at-large positions open this November. Filing runs July 31 to Aug. 14 at the district office and costs $2.
