Goodhue County Health and Human Services is using the Minnesota Department of Health’s Minnesota Extreme Heat Toolkit to develop an extreme heat plan as summer approaches.
The toolkit provides information about Minnesota climate trends, public health concerns and recommended steps to respond to extreme heat. MDH reports that more people in the United States dies from extreme heat between 1979 and 2003 than from hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, lightning and earthquakes combined.
Goodhue County is working with local churches, Meals on Wheels and the United Way to develop its plan.
