The Red Wing Area Senior Center is located in the Fairview Red Wing Professional Building and Community Center. All events listed are held at the Senior Center unless noted. Phone number is 651-267-3599.

Nutrition and cooking classes

Learn about whole grain food labels, good sources of fiber and sample an easy, healthful recipe that includes whole grains at 2 p.m. Tuesday May 22. Instructor Ruthanne Koski is a xommunity nutrition educator with the University of Minnesota Extension for Goodhue and Wabasha counties and will teach about whole grains, specifically why they are better for you and how to include more in your daily diet.

Cost is $5 members, $7 nonmembers. Registration is required.

What is an iPad?

Come and learn what the iPad is all about at 1 p.m. Tuesday May 22. If you have an iPad, bring it and share with us how you use it.

You do not need to have an iPad to come to this class. Just come to hear and see where technology is going in the world today. Cost is $10 members, $15 nonmembers.

Field of Honor

The fifth annual flag dedication ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Friday May 25 at Bay Point Park in Red Wing. The flags will be on display rain or shine.

Learn to play Bridge

Always wanted to play bridge? Or has it been so long since you played, you have forgotten how to play? Come join the two-hour class that begins at 10 a.m. and runs for eight weeks every Wednesday morning.

Wii Bowling

Available Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. Wii sports bowling is fun exercise with the added bonus of laughs and competition. Come get the enjoyment out of real bowling without the use of a heavy bowling ball.

Trips, Travel and Tours – “The Fox on the Fairway”

Travel to the Old Log Theater Wednesday June 6. “The Fox on the Fairway” is a hilarious romp which begins as rival country clubs, Quail Valley and Crouching Squirrel, head into their annual golf tournament.

With a sizable wager the contest plays out amidst mistaken identities, three love affairs, a disappearing diamond, objectionable sweaters and an exploding vase. A charming madcap adventure about love, life and man’s eternal love affair with golf.

Cost $55 members, $60 nonmembers. Reservations due by May 30.

Play cards and more

The following games will be played: Euchre – 1 p.m. Monday, May 21; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge – 10 a.m. Wednesdays.

Support services offered

Several support groups and services are available.

• Memory loss support group will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday May 22.

• Resources and Referrals will meet 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday May 23. Jane Whiteside can help you sort through problems and explore possible resources. Free and confidential service.

• Foot care clinic will be available 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays with a home health nurse. To schedule an appointment, call Fairview Red Wing Homecare and Hospice at 651-385-3410. The cost is $32.

Medical equipment available

Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.

Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
