In 2006, Red Wing celebrated its sesquicentennial anniversary (150 years) and the winning of three awards from the national organization America in Bloom (AIB).

Judges awarded Red Wing with awards from the categories of AIB Population Category, Environmental Awareness criteria award and special mention for our floral displays.

From the contest spawned the non-profit Red Wing in Bloom, whose mission is to sustain the character, history and beauty of our natural surrounding through aesthetic, spiritual and environmental initiatives that enhance the quality of life in our community.

America in Bloom made a few recommendations to enhance the beauty of Red Wing. One such recommendation was “One additional ‘sign’ to consider would require the cooperation of the granaries along the river. The silos of the granaries can be seen for long distances. If possible, it would be very dramatic to have a red wing logo painted in large proportion on the silos to announce to river traffic that they are arriving in Red Wing.”

And Red Wing in Bloom is doing just that - and we want your help in choosing the best red wing to represent the community. Please click here to vote for your favorite wing. Voting for the wings will close today at 11:59 p.m.

This wing will be painted on the Hader Farms silo off Levee Road. The three wings vying for the canvas are the Red Wing Shoe wing, Red Wing Construction wing and Red Wing Pottery wing. The painting is expected to be completed early June. Thanks to everyone who voted!
