Red Wing set a new school record Monday by shooting a 301 at Creeks Bend Golf Course in New Prague.
The Wingers beat the previous mark of 308 by getting an even-par round from senior Katie Kesti. Kesti finished tied with New Prague’s Kenzie Niesen for medalist honors with 71s and three other Red Wing players broke 80.
Sophomore Nicole Schammel shot a career-low 73, senior Marisa Toivonen had a 78 and seventh-grader Stephanie Herzog recorded a career-low 79.
“It was fun to watch the girls play well and they played with a lot of confidence,” Wingers head coach Mark Herzog said. “It wasn’t something that surprised them.”
Red Wing, which is ranked No. 1 in scoring averaging in the state with a 320.5, saw Toivonen finish the front nine at 1-under and Schammel finished 37-36. Two years ago the team shot 308 and last season the Wingers recorded a 311 at the state tournament.
“It was one of those days we all played well together,” Mark Herzog said. “We didn’t have a lot of penalty shots and we made a lot of putts.”
Red Wing also put together an impressive round Saturday at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Rosemount to beat Edina by 23 strokes.
The Wingers shot 313 with Toivonen leading the team with a 72. Kesti shot 78, Schammel 80 and Maddie Flack had an 83.
