Byron used six-run innings in the second and third to beat Zumbrota-Mazeppa 12-1 in five innings Monday in Byron.
Jordan Bale went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Bears, who finished with nine hits.
Cody Krueger and Kevin Niebuhr both went 1-for-2 and had the only two hits for the Cougars (4-14, 3-7 HVL).
Niebuhr gave up 10 earned runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out six in 2 1/3 innings for Z-M.
The Cougars face Kenyon-Wanamingo Tuesday in Zumbrota.
