Baseball: Ellsworth notches comeback victory against St. Paul Highland Park

Ellsworth came back from an 8-0 deficit at the end of the second inning to defeat St. Paul Highland Park 9-8 Saturday in Hager City.

Ellsworth came back from an 8-0 deficit at the end of the second inning to defeat St. Paul Highland Park 9-8 Saturday in Hager City.

Senior Jake Betthauser was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Panthers (13-3, 10-2 Middle Border) and junior James Georgakas finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Sophomore Isaac Hines came on in relief for Ellsworth, throwing 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts to get the win.

Joey Silversmith and Nate Anderson each went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead St. Paul Highland Park. Anderson also had a stolen base.

St. Paul Highland park scored a run in the first inning and seven in the second inning to take an 8-0 lead. Ellsworth responded with three in the second inning, three in the third inning and another run in the fourth to make it 8-7. The Panthers scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ellsworth faces Osceola Monday in Osceola.
