Herbert Mathias Kloke, 101, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, May 10, at Good Samaritan-Bethany Care Center in Brainerd, Minn.
Herbert Mathias Kloke, 101, of Ellsworth, died Thursday, May 10, at Good Samaritan-Bethany Care Center in Brainerd, Minn.
He was born in Hay Creek Township in Goodhue County to Katherine (Buck) and Louis Kloke. He attended rural schools near Hay Creek. On June 1, 1940, he married Fern Martens. They lived and farmed in Hay Creek until 1956, when they moved to farm near Plum City. In 1970, they retired from farming and moved to rural Ellsworth. He then worked as a carpenter for many years.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Red Wing. He enjoyed woodworking and the Minnesota Twins.
He is survived by three children, Diane (Paul) Voss of St. Paul, Orville (Jane) Kloke of Eau Claire, Wis., and Joyce (Dick) Wilt of Brainerd; a sister, Verona Holst of Zumbrota; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern; a brother, Leonard; and a sister, Ione.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 14, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. Loren Lucht officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Casketbearers will be the grandchildren: Laurie Smith, David Wilt, Tim Kloke, Greg Kloke, and Noel Aman. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
