A three-run fifth was all Osceola needed Thursday in a 3-1 victory over Ellsworth in Osceola.

The Cheiftains got two runs on a throwing error to take a 3-0 lead and the Panthers (10-3, 8-3 Middle Border) struggled to get any offense going.

Osceola’s Carli Wagner gave up one run in the seventh inning on five hits, struck out five and walked two in a complete-game victory.

“She was pretty strong,” Ellsworth head coach Ryan Casper said. “We started to get more at-bats from the fifth on, but not enough.”

Taylor Nelson and Halle Hatch each went 2-for-3 and Hatch scored the lone run on a Morgan Neilsen groundout.

The Panthers had a rally going in the seventh after Hatch scored but a baserunner was thrown out trying to advance to third on a single to end the threat.

Ellsworth will face Pepin-Alma Saturday in Pepin at noon.
