Zumbrota-Mazeppa dropped both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against Pine Island in Pine Island.

The Cougars lost the first game 9-2 and the second game 7-6. Z-M never led in either game and struggled fielding the ball.

The Cougars committed eight errors in the second game, which led to four unearned runs.

Pine Island jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and had a 7-0 lead after the second inning in the first game. Z-M (3-11, 3-7 HVL) didn’t score until the fifth inning.

After the first game things didn’t get better as the Cougars allowed Pine Island to score four runs without getting a hit.

Z-M battled back from a 4-0 deficit to make it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh but struck out looking with a runner on third base to end the game.

Zach VanOstrand and Cody Krueger each went 2-for-4 and Chase Steffen had three RBI with a 1-for-3 performance for the Cougars.

Z-M will play Bethlehem Academy Saturday in the Medford tournament.
