A construction worker in St. Paul cut one of Hiawatha Broadband Communications’ major trunk fiber lines early Saturday morning, leading to Internet outages for about a quarter of the company’s customers.

Some customers were routed to other Internet paths not affected by the cut, a press release said. The cut was fully repaired by 9:30 p.m., and all customers were transferred back to the original line.

“We apologize for the outage,” HBC Vice President for Corporate Development Dan Pecarina said. The company said they are working to find ways to prevent future outages.
