Boys Golf: Red Wing takes ninth at Byron

Red Wing senior Blake Westerberg shot a 4-over 76 Monday to lead the Wingers at the Byron Invitational at Somerby Golf Club in Byron.

Red Wing shot 330 to finish tied for ninth at the 12-team tournament. Wingers senior Ross Elford shot 83, senior Tyler Grove added an 84 and Jarrett Enevold shot 87.

“We’re still hoping for better and better golf,” Red Wing head coach Todd Petterson said.

Fourth-ranked Lakeville North won the tournament with a 305 while Orono took second with a 315. Byron, ranked eighth by the Minnesota Golf Association, finished third with a 316.

“The course played really hard,” Petterson said. “They’ve had a lot of water down there. The course did not roll out and you did not get the distances you usually do.”

The Wingers play Tuesday at River Oaks Golf Course in a Missota Conference match.
