Stewartville shutout Goodhue 7-0 Monday in Stewartville.
The Tigers took advantage in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Stewartville (8-4, 7-3 HVL) put up two runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead and added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Caitlyn Hughes hit a three-run shot in the sixth inning and Jackie Betcher led off the fourth inning with a solo homer.
The Wildcats (4-8, 2-8 HVL) finished with just four hits for the game and made four errors. Paige Gadient, Emily Ryan, Emilee Roschen and Meredith Watson had hits for Goodhue.
“I just don’t think we reacted to the strike zone,” Wildcats head coach Chris Irvin said. “Took a lot of first-pitch strikes.”
Roschen started for Goodhue and threw all six innings. Roschen gave up seven runs, three earned, on seven hits. Roschen struck out three and walked one.
The Wildcats face Hayfield Tuesday in Hayfield.
