Baseball: Lake City wins on walk-off against Z-M

Lake City extended its winning streak to six games Friday with a walk-off win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa in Lake City.

Lake City extended its winning streak to six games Friday with a walk-off win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa in Lake City.

Elliot Cox lined a single to score Mitch Kuchinka from third in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Tigers. Cox finished 2-for-4 for Lake City (9-3, 7-1 HVL) while Jake Griebenow went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kuchinka went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Dylan Simonic went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Lake City never led until the bottom of the seventh inning and finished with five hits.

The Cougars (2-8, 2-7 HVL) came into the game averaging a paltry 2.8 runs per game and had nine hits in the game. Jordan Thompson went 3-for-4, Kevin Niebuhr finished 2-for-4 and Austin Walstad was 2-for-4.

Z-M took a 3-0 lead after the fourth inning, but the Tigers rallied to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Reid Lundell allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits, walked three and struck out three in seven innings to get the win.

Zach VanOstrand took the loss despite striking out three and giving up just five hits.
