The Red Wing School District is looking for the public’s input and has scheduled three community meetings to get it.
The district’s current five-year referendum will expire at the end of 2013, and the district could put a new referendum out for vote as early as this November. Along with that vote could come a question for a facilities bond to update the district’s buildings and address needed repairs.
However, the district needs to determine what exactly its long-term facilities needs are.
“A critical component of the decision-making process for these important issues is to obtain community input,” Supt. Karsten Anderson said in a press release.
The School Board enlisted the help of Minneapolis-based architecture, planning and engineering firm DLR Group to evaluate buildings and help determine possible needs. So far, the firm has done walkthroughs and evaluated both the buildings’ physical conditions as well as how the spaces function for education.
“The district would like to have the public review that information and help develop potential options for consideration by the… community,” Anderson said.
A representative from DLR Group will present at the three upcoming meetings. Community members will get to answer questions including how the district’s current buildings should be used, if any should be remodeled, if new buildings are needed and how technology should be incorporated into buildings.
The meetings are open to any community member, but the district is asking participants to attend all three meetings. They will take place May 10, May 24 and a later date in the summer.
