Lake City was overpowered by third-ranked Rochester Lourdes 7-0 Thursday in Lake City.

The Eagles won all of the matches in straight sets and kept the Tigers from winning a game in five matches.

Sophomore Cort McElmury put up a fight at No. 4 singles for Lake City (2-7, 0-5 HVL) against Peter Erickson but fell 6-1, 6-3.

“Cort did well, especially the second set,” Lake City head coach Dave Toole said.

Eighth-graders Eli Custer and Matt Kjos lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Despite the big loss, Toole said facing a top team like Rochester Lourdes helps his players develop.

“It helps our guys,” he said. “They see how much better they can get. They know these kids are that good.”

The Tigers compete again Tuesday against New Life Academy/St. Croix Lutheran at home.
