Red Wing’s pitching took center stage Tuesday in a 1-0 eight-inning victory against Chaska in Chaska.
Senior Joel Newman threw all eight innings for the Wingers (9-0, 8-0 Missota) and found his way out of two jams in the seventh and eighth innings. He finished with seven strikeouts and gave up just three hits as Chaska put a runner on third base in each of the final two innings.
Senior Karsten Lampman was 1-for-3 and scored Red Wing’s only run. Senior Zach Garner tripled him home in the eighth inning and senior Mike Stegora tallied the Wingers only other hit. Junior Ryan Boldt was held hitless for the first time this year but was intentionally walked once and stole a base.
Red Wing had five steals in the game.
Cole Sweeney went 1-for-4 with a double to lead Chaska as three separate players had a hit.
The Wingers play Chanhassen Wednesday in Chanhassen.
