Ellsworth head coach Ryan Casper has waited for the offense to come around and the Panthers picked a good spot to get it going.
Ellsworth (8-1, 6-1 Middle Border) pounded out 15 hits in a 9-1 victory over Somerset Tuesday in Somerset, two days before a matchup with No. 1-ranked Baldwin-Woodville.
“Our defense and pitching has kept us in games and I’ve been waiting for our offense to break out,” Casper said.
Riley Harrison went 3-for-5 with four RBI while Taylor Nelson went 3-for-4 with two runs and Halle Hatch finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added to the lead in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Ellsworth put up three runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Mackenzie Diercks started for the Panthers and threw five innings. Diercks allowed one unearned run on one hit, struck out seven and walked six.
Ellsworth faces Baldwin-Woodville Thursday in Ellsworth.
