Zumbrota-Mazeppa managed just one hit off Rochester Lourdes Tuesday in a 4-2 loss in Rochester.
The Cougars (3-7, 3-3 HVL) drew five walks and had chances in the third and fifth innings to add runs, but couldn’t find the big hits they needed.
“We hit the ball hard right at people,” Z-M head coach Chuck Ohm said.
Lourdes took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and the Cougars tied it up in the top of the third, but left a runner on third base with two out.
Lourdes regained the lead in the bottom half of the third with a run to make it 2-1.
Z-M tied it with a run in the fifth, but left a runner on second with no outs.
Lourdes went on to take a 4-2 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fifth. The Cougars made two errors in the game that led to two runs.
Jacob Ugland had the lone hit for Z-M. Cody Hinrichs and Jordan Thompson drove in the only runs.
Kevin Niebuhr was the hard-luck loser for the Cougars after throwing six innings. Niebuhr gave up two earned runs on five hits, walked none and struck out five.
Z-M will face Lake City Friday in Lake City.
