Red Wing was ripe for an upset Tuesday at Chaska but the Wingers fought the windy conditions and scored a dominant 6-1 victory to stay undefeated in the conference.
Chaska’s lone point came at No. 1 singles.
“The conditions were there for an upset and I’m glad our guys were focused enough to not let that happen,” Red Wing head coach Randy Decker said. “I was so happy to come away with a win. After a win against Century, you might have a letdown.”
Sophomore Isaac Toivonen won his match at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2 for the Wingers (7-3, 3-0 Missota) against Ryan Ormson. At No. 3 singles, Noah Christenson defeated Mark Meier 6-2, 6-0 and eighth-grader Travis Toivonen tallied a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win against Lontyler Davis at No. 4 singles.
Red Wing swept doubles, with straight set victories at each spot. Junior Luke Bryant and sophomore Alex Holm won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, sophomore Nick Powers and Marcus Veith notched a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles and seniors Elliot Dietz and Steffen Bettich tallied a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Wingers will take on Holy Angels Wednesday in Richfield.
