It took a few years but Red Wing finally beat Rochester Century with a 4-3 victory Monday at Twin Bluff Middle School in Red Wing.

Red Wing head coach Randy Decker said Monday’s win was the Wingers’ first against Rochester Century in more than a decade.

“We left some points on the table and we could have been better but I’m still thrilled,” Decker said. “It was really exciting.”

Sophomore Isaac Toivonen won his match at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 against Thomas Joswiak and Decker said Toivonen had little trouble getting past a tough opponent.

“Joswiak’s a good player,” he said. “For Isaac to win that comfortably is really impressive.”

At No. 2 singles, senior George Gabrielson breezed through his match against Brett Peters 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Noah Christenson got Red Wing (6-3, 2-0 Missota) a third singles point with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Jeffrey Park at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Nick Powers and junior Luke Bryant got the Wingers’ fourth point with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory at No. 1 doubles.

“I thought our No. 1 doubles was really good,” Decker said. “Luke was especially good; he’s been on fire lately.”

Red Wing faces Chaska Tuesday in Chaska.
