Brandon Stevens threw a complete game four-hitter for Zumbrota-Mazeppa in a 3-1 victory against 10th-ranked (1A) Kenyon-Wanamingo Monday in Kenyon.

Stevens, a junior, had just one strikeout and one walk but he located his pitches well to keep the Knights off balance, Z-M head coach Chuck Ohm said.

“He spots his fastball, he spots his curveball,” he said. “He has to do that. It’s about location, location, location.”

The Cougars (3-6, 3-3 HVL) scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning, one on a fielder’s choice, one on a botched squeeze play that was thrown away and another on a balk.

Senior Zach VanOstrand was 2-for-3 with a double and junior Austin Walstad went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Sam Roosen pitched all seven innings for K-W (8-3), allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out nine.

The Knights had four separate players tally a hit, led by Alex Roosen, who finished 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI.

Z-M travels to face Rochester Lourdes Tuesday in Rochester.
