Jake Griebenow and Reid Lundell combined for a six-hit shutout Monday for Lake City in an 8-0 victory over Triton in Dodge Center, but they couldn’t have done it without some help from the defense.
Tigers third baseman Logan Thomas started a triple play in the top of the second inning with runners on first and second base. Thomas caught a line drive, stepped on third and threw to first baseman Jack Moyer to get Lake City (7-3, 6-1 HVL) out of an early jam.
The Tigers, who played as the home team as part of a makeup game where the second game got cancelled, went on to score five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
John Brown went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Ben Schramski drove in three runs. Dylan Simonic finished 2-for-4.
Triton pitchers struggled to find the zone and had eight walks, five of which came in the second inning.
