Red Wing ended a taxing week Friday with a 15-2 loss to Chanhassen in Red Wing.
The Wingers, playing in their fifth game of the week, got hit hard by the Storm (7-2, 6-1 Missota) which tallied 17 hits.
Red Wing (0-10, 0-9 Missota) showed improvement fielding the ball and made just two errors. The Wingers made some defensive changes and put third baseman Elle Anderson at catcher and moved catcher Makaela Egan to third base.
“We played our best ball of the season,” Wingers head coach Cheryl Borgen said. “We just happened to do it against the best team in the conference.”
Chanhassen sits atop the standings in the Missota Conference, tied with Farmington. Farmington’s only loss came against the Storm. Shakopee beat Chanhassen for its lone conference loss.
Kelsey Reding went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Red Wing and Hailee Johnson finished 2-for-3 with a run. Laura Chalmers had an RBI double for the Wingers, who finished with eight hits.
Chalmers faced 49 batters against the Storm. Chalmers walked six, struck out four and gave up 11 earned runs in her fifth game of the week.
“I think everyone is pretty tired,” Borgen said. “We’re looking forward to practice.”
Red Wing faces Chaska Tuesday in Red Wing.
