Boys Tennis: Tigers drop match against Stewartville

Lake City lost all four singles matches in a 5-2 loss to Stewartville Thursday in Lake City.

Sophomore Landin Burdis won the first set at No. 2 singles but dropped the next two against Nathan Abbot to lose 6-3, 3-6, 3-6. At No. 4 singles, the Tigers (2-6, 0-3 HVL) lost another close match with sophomore Cort McElmury falling 7-5, 7-6 (9-7).

Sophomore Alex McCormick and junior Andrew Schreck defeated Conner Craven and Ben Hogan at No. 1 doubles 6-4, 6-3 while eighth-graders Matt Kjos and Eli Custer won 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3 doubles to secure Lake City’s two points.

It was the second loss for the Tigers this week as they also fell 7-0 to third-ranked Rochester Lourdes Tuesday in Rochester.

“I think they’re No. 1 in the state,” Lake City head coach Dave Toole said of Rochester Lourdes. “Their whole lineup is tough.”

The Tigers are back in action Saturday at the Cotter Invitational in Winona.
