UW-RF holds RADD Jazz
"Universal Language VIII," the University of Wisconsin-River Falls’ annual program that explores a synthesis of jazz, improvised music and indigenous folk music from throughout the world, will feature guest artist Babatunde Lea on Saturday evening.
Lea has dedicated more than 50 years as a percussionist. He has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists, including legends McCoy Tyner, Pharaoh Sanders, Stan Getz, Richie Cole, Van Morrison and Micky Hart.
Lea has recorded six CDs, including his most recent, “Umbo Weti,” for Motema Records. The CD features Ernie Watts (saxophone), Patrice Rushen (piano), Gary Brown (bass), and Dwight Trible (voice).
The program/artistic director for the Educultural Foundation in California, Lea has served as a performer, instructor and artist-in-residence in a wide range of educational settings. He’s also played at the Healdsburg Jazz Festival.

Children can see storybook detective “Nate the Great” come alive on the Sheldon Theatre stage when Theatreworks USA brings its tour production to Red Wing. Nate gets stuck while trying to find his friend Annie’s missing painting, but gets some help from famous fictional detectives. Children 4 and older should enjoy this musical based on the children’s book series.
