Lake City scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-out double by sophomore Reid Lundell and held on for a 7-6 victory against seventh-ranked (1A) Kenyon-Wanamingo Monday in Lake City.
The Tigers (5-3, 4-1 HVL) gave up six runs in the first two innings but battled back behind clutch hitting and a stellar pitching performance in relief by junior Jake Griebenow.
“He was really efficient,” Lake City head coach Perry Iberg said. “He just did a job.”
Griebenow threw six innings to get the win, allowing zero runs, two hits and two walks while striking out eight in his first game back from an ankle injury.
Sophomore Reid Lundell finished 2-for-4 and sophomore Elliot Cox was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI for the Tigers. Junior Dylan Simonic went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Sam Roosen was the losing pitcher, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Roosen also went 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate.
Oakley McLain was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead K-W.
“It was a nice win for us,” Iberg said. “They’re pretty solid.”
