The Red Wing boys tennis team lost its only match in a rain-shortened tournament Saturday in Eagan.
The Wingers (3-1) fell 7-0 to Elk River.
“They’re probably a top-5 team in the state,” Red Wing head coach Randy Decker said. “Their top six players are all phenomenal. They have a shot to win state this year, they’re that good.”
Alex Holm and Noah Christenson put up good efforts at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, against tough opponents. Holm faced Ryan Ness, who Decker said is undefeated this season with five of his six wins coming 6-0, 6-0. Holm lost 6-3, 6-0.
“It was good tennis,” Decker said. “I was really impressed with Noah and Alex.”
Christenson fell 6-3, 7-5 to Joshua Chuba.
The Wingers face Northfield Tuesday in Northfield.
