Second-ranked Zumbrota-Mazeppa didn’t score double digit runs for the first time this season, but the Cougars still won 9-1 Monday over Bryon in Byron.
Megan Nelson hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to break open what had been a 4-1 game. Nelson also delivered a win from the circle with a 10-strikeout performance. Nelson allowed one run on four hits and walked two in her first complete game.
Amber Jentsch went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Z-M (5-0, 5-0 HVL) while Lydia Wagner finished 2-for-5 with two runs. Morgan Olson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Carley Henning had a 2-for-4 game with two runs.
The Cougars face Cannon Falls Thursday in Zumbrota.
