The Red Wing boys track and field team won the Kasson-Mantorville Invite Thursday behind the strength of its sprinters.
Red Wing won the meet with 76 points and picked up 10 points in the 100-meter dash alone. Alex Harder, Tanner Kramp and Andre Page gave Red Wing a 1-2-3 finish in the 100. Harder won in 11.85 seconds, Kramp and Page finished in 11.89.
Northfield finished second with 66 points and the KoMets placed third with 44 points.
“The guys should be proud of what they did,” Wingers head coach Adam Nelson said.
Red Wing got wins from Trent VanLoon in the 800, Christian Leitner in the 3,200, the 4x800 relay team of VanLoon, Joe Partington, Aiden Winn and Tanner Alms and the 4x200 relay team of Page, Kramp, Darrick Johnson and Gage Lastine.
The 4x200 relay finished in 1:34.97, a time faster than the relay ran all of last season, Nelson said.
Harder and Kramp finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 while Tyler Rea placed second in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
The Wingers also found points in the field events with Jonny Banks, Alex Byrne, Tanner Kruger and Ryan Parr.
Kruger won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 5 1/2 inches while Banks took second in the triple jump by going 40-1.
Byrne placed second in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19-3. Parr took second in the high jump, clearing 6 feet.
Distance and field events lead Red Wing girls to third place
The distance and field events propelled the Red Wing girls track and field team to a third-place finish Thursday at the Kasson-Mantorville Invite.
The Wingers scored 41.5 points and finished behind last year’s Missota Conference champion, Northfield, which won the meet with 73.5 points and last year’s True Team section champion, Kasson-Mantorville, which took second with 71 points.
Maggie Jonas won the shot put and finished second in the discus while the 4x800 relay team of Kelsee Anderson, Adrienne Hicks, Amy Nemanich and Abbey Schnaith won in 10:29.98.
Jonas had a throw of 35 feet to win the shot put while teammates Macy Kelly and Lauren Will finished second and fourth, respectively. Jonas had a throw of 105-6 1/2 in the discus while Kelly took third.
Emily Stegora placed in three events — the 100 and 300 hurdles and the triple jump. Stegora finished second in the triple jump and third in both the 100 and 300 hurdles.
Schnaith took second in the 800 in 2:30.86 and Kelsee Anderson finished second in the 3,200 in 12:28.77. Lindsay Scribner took third in the 1,600 in 5:58.11.
The 4x400 relay team finished second as well for the Wingers in a time of 4:29.68.
The Red Wing girls team heads to Farmington Thursday for a girls only meet while the boys will run Tuesday at Farmington in a boys only meet.
