CapX2020 line wins final approval

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has given final approval to the CapX2020 project route running between Hampton and Rochester through Cannon Falls.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has given final approval to the CapX2020 project route running between Hampton and Rochester through Cannon Falls. The roughly 80-mile 345 kV transmission line’s path will include Highway 52 in the Cannon Falls area and the Zumbro River crossing at White Bridge Road.

The PUC also approved an alternate route for the smaller 35-mile 161 kV line between Pine Island and a station northwest of Rochester.

The decisions came after a number of public hearings and open houses.

“We can’t build a project like this without affecting people,” Tom Hillstrom, project routing lead, said. “The goal of the process was to identify the route with the least impact to people and the environment. We think the process was successful thanks to the participation of thousands of landowners and agency personnel.”
