Softball: Z-M wins despite six errors

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa softball team came out on top in an error-filled 12-7 win against Stewartville Thursday in Zumbrota.
The Cougars (3-0, 3-0 HVL) made six errors in the win and Stewartville committed four errors. Both teams scored six runs in the second inning.
Senior Megan Nelson pitched six innings for Z-M, striking out five, walking two and giving up five hits. She had seven runs scored but only two were earned. Sophomore Carley Henning pitched the seventh inning.
The Cougars top four hitters all had two hits, led by Henning with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Nelson scored three runs, junior Lydia Wagner had two doubles and three RBI and junior Amber Jentsch was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
“We really did have good at bats,” Z-M head coach Kevin Nelson said. “We had a lot of hits.”
The Cougars finished with 12 hits to Stewartville’s five.
Liz Waugh went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a triple to lead Stewartville. Amy Reinhardt was 1-for-4 with a double in the loss.
Z-M plays Lake City Friday in Lake City.
