Megan Nelson and Carley Henning combined for a five-inning no-hitter as the Zumbrota-Mazeppa softball team shut out La Crescent 10-0 Tuesday in Zumbrota.

Nelson, a senior, started for the Cougars (2-0) and struck out four in three innings of work.

“We got great pitching again,” Z-M head coach Kevin Nelson said. “When you don’t give up a hit, it’s pretty easy to go out and play.”

The Cougars scored all 10 runs in the first three innings and finished with nine hits and no errors. Junior Amber Jentsch went 2-for-2 with two RBI and senior Alex Weber had two hits and an RBI. Eighth-grader Morgan Olson supplied a double and two runs while junior Lydia Wagner had two hits and scored two runs for Z-M.

“We’re getting very good at bats up and down the lineup,” Nelson said. “We had RBIs at 7 of the 9 spots … We’re doing a lot of good things.”

The Cougars host Stewartville Thursday in Zumbrota.
