Marissa McCormick came through with a two-out two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Lake City softball team a 6-5 walk-off victory against Triton Tuesday in Lake City.
McCormick, a senior, finished 2-for-4 as the Tigers came back from a 5-2 deficit in the seventh inning.
“The girls did what they needed to do to come through with the win tonight,” Lake City head coach Katie Luhmann said.
Senior Alexa Blair was the winning pitcher for the Tigers (2-0), throwing seven innings, giving up five runs, walking 10 and striking out five. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI. Senior Amy Dudley was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and senior Kyllie Smith knocked in two runs.
Haley Staffon pitched for Triton, allowing six run in seven innings with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Lake City significantly improved its defense in the second game of the season, committing four errors compared to nine miscues in the season-opener.
“Improvement every game is what I am looking for and they did that tonight,” Luhmann said.
The Tigers host La Crescent Thursday.
