Lake City Fire Department Relief Association will hold a chicken dinner and fundraiser April 28 to help cover the cost of sending police officers to National Police Week in Washington, D.C.

Officer Shawn Schneider was shot and died in December. His name will be inscribed on the national law enforcement memorial, and local officers hope to attend the ceremony. The trip is estimated to cost $22,000, firefighters said, and they hope to cover half of it.

The meal will be served 3 to 8 p.m. at the Fire Hall. The menu includes chicken, coleslaw, beans and a non-alcoholic beverage.

The cost is $10 per person. Children 12 and younger pay $5. Advance tickets are available from volunteer firefighters, Swan Jewelers and Alliance Bank.

Donation checks can be written to “Lake City Fire Department Relief Association” and mailed to City Hall, C/O LCFD Relief Association, 205 Center Street, Lake City, MN 55041.
