Red Wing Area Seniors briefs

The Red Wing Area Senior Center is located in the Fairview Red Wing Professional Building and Community Center. All events listed are held at the Senior Center unless otherwise noted. Phone number is 651-267-3599.

Laurel and Hardy

Presenter William Hoyt will show the movie “March of the Wooden Soldiers” 1 p.m. Monday April 16.

Korean War

Veteran Ralph Lentz of Lake City will talk at 2 p.m. Tuesday April 17. Lentz served in the U.S. Army with the 17th Regiment during the last part of the Korean War. He will share his experiences about the spring of the Chinese Offense and what it was like being on the troop ship. Cost $2 members, $3 nonmembers.

Photography class

Learn the basics of your digital camera from Judy and Tom Walsh at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday April 17. Bring your camera, manual and questions and get started on taking those photos you want to capture.

Eye glass adjustments

Pearl will provide free eye glass adjustments from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday April 17. Services provided will be minor adjustments and repairs, cleaning and replacement of nose pads.

Senior Forum

Dr. Bruce McBeath, licensed psychologist, will discuss the process of forgiveness 10 a.m. Thursday April 19 and the various ways of going about it – because forgiveness is not always easy even when we know we need to do it.

Cards & Games

The following games will be played: Euchre – 1 p.m. Monday, April 16; Duplicate Bridge – 12:15 p.m. Thursday, April 19; Scrabble - 1 p.m. Wednesdays; Fun Bridge – 10 a.m. Wednesdays.

Support services offered

Several support groups and services are available.

• Parkinson’s support group will meet 3 p.m. Thursday April 19.

• Free blood pressure checks will be offered from 9:15-10 a.m. Thursday April 19 by St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park staff.

• Foot care clinic will available 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays with a home health nurse. To schedule an appointment, call Fairview Red Wing Homecare and Hospice at 651-385-3410. The cost is $32.

Medical equipment available

Gently used medical equipment is available at the Senior Center to use for up to three months during a period of medical convalescence or short-term disability.

Items include wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, shower chairs, commodes and more. If you need something, visit or call the center. A $20 donation is requested to help with the ongoing program costs.
