Track: Z-M boys take third at DESC meet

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa boys track and field team took third last Thursday at the Dover-Eyota/St. Charles Invite with 59 points.

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa boys track and field team took third last Thursday at the Dover-Eyota/St. Charles Invite with 59 points.

Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Southland won the meet with 80.5 points, DESC took second with 79 and Lewiston-Altura finished fourth with 33.5 points.

Lucas Ziemba won two events, including the long jump for the Cougars by going 21 feet, 1 inch, nearly three feet more than the second-place finisher. Ziemba also won the 100 in 11.55.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Nathan Warneke, James Drettwan, Nathaniel Rauen and Freddie Bormann won in a time of 8 minutes, 59.96 seconds.

Z-M’s 4x100-meter relay team of Josh Lyon, Matt Lyon, Colton Thoreson and Tyler Quam won in 49.45 seconds, edging out GMLOKS’ relay by more than a second.

Warneke gave the Cougars a win in the 3,200 by finishing in 10:09.96.

The 4x400 relay team of Sean Adams, Bormann, Rauen and Shea Mollenhauer placed second in 3:59.07, losing out to GMLOKS’ relay, which finished in 3:52.45.

The 4x200 relay of Ben Coady, Adams, Tyler Quam and Ziemba also placed second with a time of 1:40.82.

Z-M girls place 4th

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa girls track and field team placed fourth with 13 points.

Maddie Lindhart won the shot put for the Cougars to score six of the team’s points. Lindhart won the event with a throw of 30-4 ¾. Lindhart also placed second in the discus with a toss of 93-4.
