Dorothy Ellen Knoblauch, 89, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 6, at her home.

Dorothy Ellen Knoblauch, 89, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 6, at her home.

She was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Luverne, Minn., to Albert and Leona (Peters) Remme. When she was 3 years old, they moved to Cannon Falls, where she graduated from high school and the Normal Training Department. For 2 years she taught at rural schools in Dakota and Goodhue Counties. In 1944, she married Russell Knoblauch, and they farmed near Cannon Falls for 7 years, and they then moved to the Welch area where they farmed and lived until they moved to Red Wing in 2009. For 9 years she drove school bus and was a volunteer at Haven Homes for 10 years.

Nature - especially birds, gardening, quilting, cooking, and puzzles were the things Dorothy enjoyed. As a member of Cross of Christ Church, she taught Sunday school and served on the church council and on WELCA, where she helped serve many funeral lunches.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Bob) Luhman of Welch, Leona Haupt of Red Wing, and a son, James (Claudine) Knoblauch of Fridley; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Eric Luhman, Jeremy Wright, Anthony and Nora Haupt, and Clark and Claire Goebel; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Misty, Cory, Hannah, Tyler, and Helena; a sister, Virginia Wille of Cannon Falls; and a brother, Al Peter (Bonnie) Remme of Cannon Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, and her parents.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, with Reverend Joy Bussert officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church, American Red Cross, or Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
