A grass fire near Camp Pearson Road Thursday night burned about 40 acres Thursday afternoon, the Red Wing Fire Department reported.
The dispatch center received a call at 3:15 p.m. reporting a grass fire. Firefighters arrived within 10 minutes and found a large wild land fire close to the Cannon Valley Trail.
Most of the terrain involved was wetlands. Because of a lack of road access, firefighters could only attack the fire on foot using water-filled vests and hand tools. No structures were threatened.
Sixteen Red Wing firefighters worked for four hours to contain the fire. Miesville Fire Department provided additional apparatus and personnel. No one was injured.
The cause of the fire or the point of origin is unknown, the department said.
