The Goodhue baseball team gave up six unearned runs Thursday in a 12-7 loss to Hayfield in Hayfield.
Junior Andy Johnson started on the mound for the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1 HVL), giving up five earned runs in four innings, allowing six hits and striking out three. Johnson also went 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. Senior Thomas Ramboldt pitched two innings, allowing two runs, one earned, and striking out one batter. He hit 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Kyle Diercks was 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Jason Born got the win for Hayfield, pitching into the fifth inning and allowing three earned runs while striking three and giving up four hits.
Goodhue scored three runs in the first inning but Hayfield responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hayfield added another run in the second, four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth inning before the Wildcats tallied three runs in the fifth inning to make it 10-6.
Goodhue added another run in the sixth inning but Hayfield sealed the victory with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Wildcats play Monday against Cannon Falls in Goodhue.
