ZUMBROTA — Rachel Friese was crowned Goodhue County Dairy Princess and Aly Schwartau and Rachael Rostad were named the attendants at the 2012 Goodhue County Dairy Herd Improvement Association banquet Saturday.
The candidates were all asked four questions by master of ceremonies Brad Hovel.
The first question was, “What would you do if a mother came to you and asked you how to get their child to drink milk?”
The popular answer was to flavor the milk with chocolate or another flavor the child likes. Friese stood apart by jokingly saying, “To get out a calf feeder and tube them. Sorry, I had to say it, but seriously I would offer the same advice as the others by adding flavor to the milk.”
Candidates then were asked why they wanted to be the 2012 Goodhue County Dairy Princess. Friese said, “I would love to represent the dairy industry and to speak with schools about the dairy industry and the nutritional value of dairy.”
The third question asked the candidates what their favorite dairy product is.
“White milk,” Friese said. “I like drinking it with everything I eat.”
Lastly, they were asked about their most embarrassing moment on the farm. Friese told about being accused of sabotage at the county fair due to a mix up of product to fluff up the calf’s tail.
All three royalty members advance on an equal basis to the next level of competition. Ultimately, each region sends candidates to the Minnesota State Fair where they vie to be Princess Kay of the Milky Way.
Friese’s parents are David and Becky Friese of Wanamingo. She was sponsored by the Bank of Zumbrota and Plainview Milk Products.
Attendant Rachel Rostad’s parents are Joel and Bridget Rostad of Zumbrota and she was sponsored by the Bank of Zumbrota. Attendant Aly Schwartau’s parents are David and Jane Schwartau of Red Wing and she was sponsored by Merchants Bank of Cannon Falls and Brian Hokanson.
