Spotlight: Monroe heads to Cannon Falls

Minnesota’s Michael Monroe creates inspiring, evocative music.

Minnesota’s Michael Monroe creates inspiring, evocative music. “An Evening with Michael Monroe,” will be presented at the Community Concert at the Cannon Falls High School Auditorium, 820 E. Minnesota St., at 7 p.m. Thursday April 12.

The musician will be performing for students during a lyceum at the Elementary School earlier in the day, and the Cannon Falls Paren Teacher Organization invites all students, friends, families and community members to attend his evening show.

Monroe's award-winning soundtrack is featured on National Geographic photographer Jim Brandenburg's "Chased By the Light" on PBS/CBC and the two collaborated with “In Concert With Nature” at the Guthrie Theater.

From vinyl to digital, performing his acoustic tunes and jazzy reggae, he blends vocals, handmade guitars, bamboo/crystal flutes together, recycling music live using technology that's powered by creativity, organizers said.

Monroe lives in his log cabin and records his music on the North Shore of Lake Superior, outside Grand Marais, in his solar-powered MisTree Studio.

Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for students and donations to the local food shelf are also welcome.
