Track: Z-M track team secures top finishes at time trials

The Zumbrota-Mazeppa track and field team secured top three finishes in nine different events Thursday during the first meet of the season with Red Wing in Red Wing.
Junior Lucas Ziemba finished first in the boys 100-meter dash in 12.24 seconds; .18 seconds ahead of Red Wing’s Andre Page. Ziemba also tied for first in the boys long jump at 19 feet with Red Wing’s Ryan Parr.
The Cougars also got a top performance from senior Colleen Owen. Owen won the long jump at 14-feet, 5-inches, came in third in the 100-meter dash and notched a sixth-place finish in the 800 meter race.
Senior Nathan Warneke ran the 1,600-meter race in 4 minutes, 50.68 seconds, good for second place.
Ninth-grader Emily Smith completed the 800-meter run in 2:56.31, placing third, and junior Freddie Bormann came in second place in the boys 800.
Senior Sean Adams got third in the boys triple jump while ninth-grader Maddie Lindhart finished third in the girls discus throw and shot put.
Sophomore Debbie Miller jumped 12-feet-9-inches for third place in the girls long jump.
Z-M is back in action Thursday at the St. Charles Invitational in St. Charles, Minn.
