Editorial: Know your district, and plan on voting

Red Wing City Council soaring high; Pierce County elections ready for flight.

Soaring high: Red Wing City Council followed due process — public notices, an open house, hearings — but wasted no time in completing its redistricting plan. As a result, citizens have plenty of time to learn where they can vote Aug. 14 and Nov. 6.

Many residents will have a new polling place because there are now two precincts instead of three in each of the four wards. That means no more voting at Jefferson School, Goodhue County History Center, Red Wing High School and Jordan Tower I.

Citizens, begin the education process. Determine where you vote and then plan to do so.

Ready for flight: Pierce County also had to redistrict due to the 2010 census. As a result, every County Board seat — 17 of them — is up for election in Tuesday’s annual spring election. There are contested races for seven of them.

County government impacts almost every aspect of local life — public health, transportation, zoning, the list goes on — and we hope our neighbors across the river choose their supervisors with care.
