The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office will conduct alcohol compliance checks of all alcohol retailers licensed by the county in the next few months.
During a check, a law enforcement officer works with a person under the age of 21 who attempts to buy alcohol. If the seller asks for identification and refuses the sale, they have passed the compliance. If the sale is made, the business owner could face fines, liquor license suspensions or revocation, as well as civil charges. The clerk or server who actually made the sale could also face a gross misdemeanor criminal charge.
This is the second round of compliance checks the office has conducted. The first round was in December, and all sellers passed.
