The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is asking Minnesota teens to make a TV commercial promoting seat belt use. The winners of the “Buckle Up, Teens! TV Commercial Challenge” will receive $1,000 and have their commercial aired on MTV during the Video Music awards this summer.
From 2008 to 2010, only 39 of the 100 teen vehicle occupants killed in motor crashes had been wearing their seat belts.
“This contest is an opportunity for teens to educate their peers about the importance of buckling up,” said Gordy Pehrson, DPS youth programs coordinator.
Commercials must be 30 seconds long and turned in by April 23. Visit dps.mn.gov/divisions/ots/teen-driving/Pages/teen-tv-commercial-challenge.aspx for more information.
