Girls Basketball: Lake City's season end against Stewartville

Free-throw shooting was the difference as the Lake City girls basketball team was upended 54-47 against Stewartville Friday during the first round of the Section 1AA tournament in Stewartville.

The seventh-seeded Tigers made just 9 of 17 free throws while Stewartville connected on 19 of 21 free throws.

Senior Alexa Blair led Lake City with 22 points and junior Taylor Koller added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Liz Waugh scored 16 points to lead Stewartville and Katie Bauman tallied 13 points. Shannon Curtis finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Blair Honsey contributed 12 rebounds.

Both teams shot under 30 percent in the game. Stewartville had 11 turnovers and the Tigers committed nine turnovers. Lake City trailed 28-24 at halftime.

Second-seeded Stewartville plays again Monday against sixth-seeded Rochester Lourdes at the Mayo Civic Arena.
