Lake City had seven wrestlers secure a spot in the semifinals Friday at the Section 1A individual tournament in Rochester.
Carston Dammann won two matches Friday to reach the semifinals. Dammann beat Pine Island’s Isaac Haman by fall in 57 seconds at 106 pounds and beat Dover-Eyota’s Michael Otomo 13-5.
Andrew Schmidt won by fall at 113 pounds against Chris Collett in 54 seconds. Schmidt will face Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Luke Rechtzigel.
Shane Siewert beat Pine Island’s Brad Haze by fall in 4:40 to set up a match against St. Charles’ Cody Ball at 132 pounds in the semifinals.
Fifth-ranked Rusty Grisim beat Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Hunter Prodzinski 10-1 to reach the semifinals, where he’ll face Goodhue’s Jacob Blattner.
Fourth-ranked Will Balow beat Pine Island’s Brenden Dugstad by fall in 1:30 in his only match of the day to move on to the semifinals. Balow will face Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton’s Niko Anderson at 160 pounds.
Austen Poss won his only match by fall in 5:23 against Monty Holm at 170 to secure a spot in the semifinals. He’ll face Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Dillon Downes.
Pedro Guevara won by fall in 47 seconds at 285 pounds against St. Charles’ Landon Majerus to move on to the semifinals.
Goodhue advances six to semifinals
Goodhue put six wrestlers into the semifinals.
Matthew Lexvold won 15-3 over Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Freedom Hunt at 113 pounds to earn a match with Dover-Eyota’s Dakota Welsh.
Kyle Drehmel won both his matches at 126 pounds with falls to reach the semifinals. Drehmel pinned Wabasha-Kellogg’s Trent Olson in 50 seconds to open the day and pinned Lake City’s Noah Bailey in 1:18.
Goodhue’s Mitchell Breuer won both his matches by fall at 152 pounds to earn a spot in the semifinals. Breuer pinned Pine Island’s Bradley Bye in the first round in 3:52 and went on to pin Chatfield’s Jeremy Benike in 5:45.
Justin Simmons got a 4-2 victory over Joe Hedquist at 170 pounds to make it to the semis. Simmons will face Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Alex Johnson.
Weston Gadient made quick work of Dover-Eyota’s Noah Teed with a fall in 51 seconds at 220 pounds to reach the semifinals. Gadient will face Pine Island’s Zach Kennedy.
Ryan Tipcke won by fall in 1:23 to move on to the semifinals at 285 pounds. Tipcke will face Wabasha-Kellogg’s Paul Kruger, Jr.
Z-M places three into semis
Zumbrota-Mazeppa advanced three wrestlers to the semifinals of the Section 1A individual tournament Friday in Rochester.
Fourth-ranked freshman Joey Majerus won his opening match by fall in 33 seconds over Goodhue’s Bailee O’Reilly at 106 pounds. Majerus moves on to face Lake City’s Carston Dammann today in the semifinals.
Mitchell Watkins breezed to a 17-1 technical fall victory over Pine Island’s Adam Pleshcourt at 126 pounds. Watkins will face Goodhue’s Kyle Drehmel.
Freshman Dillon Downes won by fall in 49 seconds over Chatfield’s Nick Haffner to get into the semifinals at 170 pounds.
Cannon Falls send four to Section 1AA semis
Paul Fitterer beat Byron’s Alex Bertram by technical fall at 106 pounds to reach the semifinals, where he’ll face Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton’s Skyler Petry.
Conner Rohr beat Calvin Doerr 8-4 to lock up a spot in the semifinals at 126 pounds.
Roman Wundrow won 4-2 at 132 pounds against Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland’s Parker Hale to reach the semis.
Clay Broze won his opening match at 182 pounds with a 19-1 technical fall victory over Waseca’s Caleb Erickson and advanced to the semifinals with a 13-0 win over Byron’s Matt Hintz. Broze will face La Crescent’s Jake Nelson.
